Challenge
The client needed a secure platform for collaborative PDF editing, but existing tools lacked real-time co-editing, structured user roles, and a modern interface.
- No real-time co-editing - version conflicts and long review cycles
- No structured user roles - access-related errors and unclear responsibilities
- Outdated interface - friction in daily editing and review work
- Slow, error-prone maintenance due to outdated architecture
- Version conflicts, low productivity, and long review cycles
Business Goals
- Enable real-time multi-user PDF editing
- Introduce role-based access for admins, editors, and reviewers
- Modernize the editing interface for daily users
- Reduce review cycle time and version conflicts
- Stabilize architecture for fast, low-risk releases
Solution
01 Role-based access control:
- Granular roles for admins, editors, and reviewers - reduced access-related errors by 80%
02 Real-time collaboration:
- Multiple users edit and comment simultaneously - accelerated document review cycles by 60%
03 Advanced PDF editing tools:
- Annotations, comments, and version tracking - improved editing speed by 40%
04 WebKit UI integration:
- Sleek, high-performance interface using WebKit UI for smooth cross-browser rendering - +35% user satisfaction
05 BitDev-based component architecture:
- Utilized BitDev packages (similar to npm registry) for modular component development
- Custom BitDev components aligned with the project's unique design system
- Maintained and updated packages to improve stability, fix bugs, and streamline deployment
- Reduced component update and deployment time by 50%
How the Solution Works
Users sign in with one of three roles - admin, editor, or reviewer - which controls what they can do inside the document. Multiple roles can open the same PDF at once and edit, annotate, and comment in real time, with versions tracked automatically so nothing gets overwritten.
The UI is built on WebKit UI for consistent cross-browser rendering, and the entire frontend is composed of modular BitDev packages, so component updates ship independently of the main app, cutting deployment time in half.
Results
- 2× faster collaboration - real-time co-editing cut review time in half
- Zero version conflicts - thanks to isolated component updates
- 70% fewer bugs - modular BitDev maintenance improved system reliability
- 35% higher user satisfaction from the redesigned WebKit UI experience
- Future-ready architecture - flexible structure for rapid scaling and new features
